"Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior."
-Karl von Clausewitz
We’ve seen warriors courageously fighting for their country in old war movies or a boxing ring competitor who earns a championship title after delivering a savage blow to his opponent’s face. Both military and boxing warriors are distinguished for their skillful approach to a challenge.
Here are ten attributes they execute when facing their opponent:
1. Warriors aren’t deficient in fortitude
2. Warriors are tenacious and resilient
3. Warriors won’t cower to bullies or threats
4. Warriors will discern imminent threats
5. Warriors will implement survival tools
6. Warriors aren’t timid nor avert challenges
7. Warriors won’t spectate on the sidelines
8. Warriors are skilled at evading an attack
9. Warriors will survey potential schemes
10. Warriors will explore their blindspots

Military and boxing warriors are admired and respected for their strength. Although they engage physically with their opponents, they aren’t the only group identified as warriors.
Here’s a broader meaning of the word warrior,
According to the online dictionary site www.urbandictionary.com, states,
“A warrior is someone who fights through everything that tries to bring them down. A warrior is someone who is selfless and resilient. They wake up before dawn and end up going to bed at midnight. They sleep very little because they know they have important people to care for and love. The world would stop without them. In everything they do they put others first.
They fight through the tiredness, stress and the anxiety. They are special. They always think they aren’t doing enough when really there is no one in this world who could carry as much as they do and as well as they do. They are almost perfect besides the fact that they rarely let people take care of them. If you are chosen to care and love for the warrior then you are the luckiest person in the world, like me. I am the luckiest person in the world that I get to love a warrior.”
To summarize the above definition, a warrior is a person who gives selflessly and sacrifices for others regardless of discomfort or inconvenience.
These individuals are people we see daily, such as,
- The exhausted nurse who selflessly cares for the sick and feeble
- The brave firefighter who extinguishes dangerous house fires
- That father who performs back-breaking work to support his family
- The devoted mother who loses sleep caring for a chronically ill child
- An overwhelmed Alzheimer’s disease caregiver without any support
- The double-amputee war veteran who volunteers for soup kitchens
- The struggling single parent who goes hungry so her children can eat
These individuals may not be fighting a boxing match or a war in Iraq but are fighting against fatigue, burnout, sleep deprivation, health risks, nutritional deficiencies, loss of life, etc. These compassionate souls are brave and committed enough to push forward for the good of others.
Let’s salute these brave warriors!
Does a brave person inspire you? Have you taken notice or given any thought to anyone you considered to be a warrior?
Then, who is your warrior hero?
Question: Why Should You Care About Warriors?
Because they care about you while expecting nothing in return, please pause, and take time to thank or hug the warrior in your life for all they do.
They’ll appreciate it!
